Keymap Decided

Here's what I think is happening:

To older users, the new keymap is harder to adapt to, because they've become adjusted to the current keymap (and therefore, if the new keymap was commited sooner, it would have been easier). To new (and left handed?) users, it isn't too hard because they find what each button does and thinks that's what it's supposed to do, and not "the power button should go to the menu, not stop music". I personally have stopped my music accidentally from doing that. However, I think it's going to be better to use the new keymap because at some point, all the custom builds will need to switch. However, I will post a button comparison to help make it easier for users.

It's probably FS#2954 due to the (what I thought was a) slight change. I'll see if I can fix it.

EDIT: Nope, it was FS#5900. I'm still working on checking everything to find the problem.

Thank you for fast answer!
And the last issue I have found is a cracking noise, while playing mp3´s, without any changes to the equalizer.
(Maybe a codec problem or why?)

I'm not sure why there'd be a cracking noise. I am limited to only the simulator at the moment (should be able to test on my Sansa in an hour or two) but just to make sure, have you tried multiple mp3s to confirm?

Sigh - regular scrolling doesn't work. I'm going to try reverting wps_parser.c and see if something happened that broke it.

I don't know if this is what you guys are talking about, but sometimes, when you scroll at 90RPM (rotates per min.), the sound will stop, and about one second later it starts back up.

Wow, I didn't think there was much of a difference between your build and the original thing. I switched to it for a day, just to see what it was like, and dang wasn't yours better?

It usually is better, but some patch(es) are messing it up. Builds from earlier this month should be fine, but once I finish fixing email related stuff, I'll try rebuilding it again.

Uh, I think the one from November 14 works the best, maybe...

The "Old Builds" link up near the top has a form for downloading old builds.

Do you make your svn Builts with a automatic script?
Which Rockbox Version do you use for this Builts, always the last one or not?

Builds are automated, using the latest copy of the Rockbox SVN, so it is one of the most up to date builds.

Ok, the scrolling Text Bug wasn't a real Bug.
It was just a typing error in wsp (%e), the width was to large for the screen...

(Not a big problem,... maybe only false settings: But the cracking noise happens, when you try to edit some options in Crossfeed section.)

My issue has a lot to do with the fact I use my sansa hanging under my shirt. I never look at it. As of now, I can do most things without looking (or thinking) I just have no urge to change things.
Having a comparison would help me, and I don't know if pausing will be as simple (I have most trouble shutting it off, that button is least tactile under my shirt and in a silicone skin)

When the keymapping started, I figured the build was broken and reverted. After two times I just stopped updating. Then I read there was a new keymap and I haven't tried it yet.

PS, do you know the last day of the old map? That would be the one I would use...at least for now...

BTW, Custom builds never have to switch, they are custom and can do whatever they want.

The day of the keymap change was Nov 4, so the Nov 3 build should work. You just had to remind me that the custom build can be however I want it ;) It's almost like this is the difference between (US) Republican and Democratic parties - some people believe it should be as close as possible to the OF, while others believe it should be as close as possible to other targets.

I am trying to adapt to the new keys but I find it isn't just remapped. How I used to do things is not possible. If I wanted to make a random playlist of the entire music folder (or any folder) I would browse to the folder in file view, hit the bottom button, choose playlists and add randomly. I can not do this with the database. It will include my ebooks in the audio if I choose all files (I have ebooks and video on a SD card)

Since I often like to just randomize the entire unit, I can't make the swap easily. (I used to play a new album, but I can't easily create lasting playlists. If I delete a song, the playlist isn't updated, so I have to manually make a playlist after editing anyway. Now I usually just listen to things randomly.

Is thee a way to use the new keys and add folders to a playlist with the file browser? I am not certain but I spend ten minutes trying. It seems both the power button and the bottom button do the exact same thing in the file browser.

Maybe this is just me, if not, I hope it helps others.

Thank you for mentioning the last build that used the old keymap, but it seems that 11-3 has an issue that stops the playing after 7 songs. (I can't figure out why but it seems to be a consistant event at the 7th song where it just stops playing)

I think 10-31 is OK for anyone looking to use the old maps..

I would move to the new keys if I could get the "add to playlist shuffled" while viewing a folder in file view. (as I mentioned trying to randomly add everything using All file in the database will add my ebooks to the random playlist)
