Just a heads up - there's quite a bit of talk in IRC right now about various WPS patches being rejected soon, such as FS#5900. This is because the tracker is meant to be for patches that are trying to get in to the official build, and with viewports coming soon, those patches won't be needed. The problem is, people can't decide if it's best to close those patches now so new patches can be worked on, or to wait until viewports are ready, and then close them. Feel free to voice your opinion in IRC (http://rockbox.org/irc for a web client) but don't start ranting.

Re: patches, could this one be included in your build?

There was some talk that the patch requires more work than simply adding it to a build. It seems it's a new resizing method.

Any idea about the patch Jack?

Hey Chrisjs, have you any news on USB support on the Sansa? I'm getting the feeling that it has been abandoned, which concerns me because actually... I'm psychic. I don't have full control of my powers yet, but occasionally I can do some awesome things.
...
Anyways... what about the NES plugin? I tried it the other day, and the game wouldn't even load.
Also, you said you would add that ID3 V1 editor patch, where is it?
Um, have you worked on that secret thingy any?
And... and... uh... *runs out of things to complain about*... whatever...

Why do you think viewports are coming "soon"?
What I read in the IRC talks was that the devs intend to close patches which will not be accepted because viewports will make them obsolete.
But they decided to close them even if viewports don't make any progress.
For me this is bullshit!
Either someone really starts implementing viewports or
the devs officially say "viewports never will happen" and then open the doors for patches which bring similar features!
But that "waiting forever" situation is frustrating!
Just my two cents...

Jeton - sorry about the delay - as I said on ABi I've still had connection problems, though should be fine now. I haven't had a chance to check on the build the past few days, but will take a look at FS#8308 shortly.
Zim - AFAIK USB Support is still being worked on, but I haven't heard anything new recently (partially because of connection problem). I'm thinking of taking out the NES plugin simply because it's too slow to do much with, and doesn't seem to run well. What secret thingy are you talking about? If it's the file thing, I haven't worked on it recently, but I suppose it will be ready soon. I will add the ID3 V1 patch upon the next rebuild, sometime tonight.
Micha0815 - I was only relaying info that I heard in IRC. It seems not all of the devs agree on the use of viewports, but last I heard (about a week ago...connection problems...) it was still being worked on. Apparently the devs think the use of the tracker is becoming blurred, because some patches are only being synced to work with custom builds instead of trying to get into the official build. Like you, I agree that they should leave the patches open until viewports are ready, or otherwise just leave them open for them be to accepted into the official build. Also, if you think "waiting forever" is frustrating for you, if those patches do get closed, custom builders either have to make their own tracker, or continue syncing them themselves, which could cause differences between builds.

Well, I had a discussion at IRC with amiconn about viewports and their implementation.
This was one and a half year ago and it already blocks a lot of patches at that time because of "this have to be put out again when viewports are ready".
At that time amiconn told me that he already has a "nearly working version" of viewports at his computer.
He also told me that he needs some more time to finish it.
Now (one and a half year later) the situation did not change - that's what I called "frustrating"...

@Chrisjs:
lol, yes, that was the secret thingy I was talking about.
Your taking out the NES patch? Oh, well, you're right it ran to slow, I think it was even slower than the Gameboy one.
December 22nd, 2007 at 9:07 am
I agree with taking NES off. It's useless since it's so slow.

While you're at it, could you take a look at this:
http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/8285
It adds a plugin which turns the sansa's screen white, and serves as a flashlight.

I can't get BigRed Theme (or dockpod) to work on your build or the official build. Is this due to a change. I have wasted a couple hours on this, and finally thought (after reformating and reloading all my music) that maybe it isn't me...
These themes use the syntax from patch fs5900 so I am thinking they are just hosed now.

I am trying to figure out what needs to be changed, but I have not found a simple description of the change.
December 23rd, 2007 at 3:54 pm
To answer to Jeton... at the place of tearing your eyes on a computer screen to create a flashlight
open your little program called paint. make a blank image larger than your sansa screen.
Then, go in file, save as. choose .jpeg name it flashlight and save it to your main directory directly into X:\ and then, in rockbox select files and open flashlight
WOW!!!! A big shining white screen
Lol seriously... sorry to make fun on you but... Don't waste time and take Kb on your mp3 player that read photos just to have a white screen...
December 23rd, 2007 at 11:06 pm
Charles, what a great idea...
And i don't see what's so funny about it. I'm just making a request.
The request for the plugin is for the sole reason that it can be configured to load a white screen and set the brightness to 100%, as in my Sansa i always have the brightness to 70%.
And what's all the fuzz about wasting kB? If ya can't read, the site says C U S T O M build. Meaning it's to be customized. And I can't think of any other way of customizing the build exept by requests and input from users.
So stop being a smartass.
December 24th, 2007 at 9:37 am
Sorry, Jeton, but I personally thought that was very funny. I guess that if he was saying it to me, I might be a little upset, but I wouldn't curse at him. And Charles, you did go a tiny bit overboard with that comment. I know that this isn't my site, nor is it a forum, but still, no flaming, please.

I know this is a few hours early, but...
Merry Christmas, Chrisjs. Oh, and Merry Christmas to all build users, and everyone who just so happens to read this post!

My issue were solved with some help. There were missing tags.

Hey Guys - sorry about all the delays - apparently I'm still without internet at my house, and it's scheduled to be out until this weekend =/.
As Zim said, please don't go around flaming other users. While the idea of a blank jpg image is good, rockpaint still uses the user-set brightness. However, while I'm sure most of the world has moved away from dialup, I would still like to keep the build size relatively small. I'm thinking of taking all of the custom plugins and having them available on the site, but not directly included in the build. We'll see.

@Chrisjs
Um, if you did that, would we have to patch them ourselves? I'm not very good at that...
December 27th, 2007 at 9:03 am
If I did that, the rock files would be available, and simply would be saved into /.rockbox/rocks...I think.
December 27th, 2007 at 12:54 pm
@ Chrisjs
I have a question. What is the difference between the Sansa e200 and the e200v2? By that I mean, why can't the v2 run Rockbox? And what would be needed to change to make it run Rockbox?
Thanks
December 27th, 2007 at 9:06 pm
The v2 contains completely new hardware in it, and, IIRC, we're having trouble finding out information about the hardware. Because of the new hardware (and lack of support for it) it can't run Rockbox (It doesn't even use MI4 files). All that (AFAIK) is needed to make it run is add support for the new hardware.
Sorry for lack of information, I haven't followed the port much.
